Dear Ladies Who Lunch,

Cassio’s Restaurant is run by students at West Herts College in Watford. They offer a three course lunch for £7. There is usually a meat, a fish, and a vegetarian option. The students are supervised by professionals, but you do have to go with a sense of humour and adventure. We will combine having a delightful meal with supporting local students who are learning a good trade.

As an additional bonus, they usually have a takeaway service. For a very small fee, you get a container of whatever is on offer. You can buy something for supper that night and won’t have to cook at all.

I took two ladies there recently, and we had a wonderful time. The students were so keen, so serious, and the food was good. My blue cheese and leek pasta was fabulous, and my guests declared their bread and butter pudding almost the best they have ever tasted. There were large queues for the takeaway, as a lovely looking salmon salad was £1 and chicken with vegetables and potatoes was £2.

Tuesday the 19th of January is the day for this adventure. Our reservations are for 12 noon. The students have classes later in the day, so we will be finished by about 1:30. On campus parking is plentiful. I’ll email directions to everyone who books. The college is just outside Watford’s main shopping areas.

To make sure that the college is not out of pocket with groups who don’t show up, they have asked that we pay our £7 in advance. Wine (£2.40 per glass), coffee (around £1), and a tip are extra and can be paid on the day.

I did ask for payment at our January meeting. Those of us who were brave enough to venture out in the cold were rewarded by a really fun meeting, but a lot of ladies decided not to take a chance. Nine of us have signed up and paid for the lunch. If you would like to go, please let me know asap. Once you have made a commitment to go, I will hold you to that promise. No excuses! I will have to organise the extra places with the college, and it would not be fair to have them out of pocket if some of our number didn’t pay and didn’t show up.

See you soon!
