Things We Do For Love - Saturday, February 27, 2010

It's that time of year for our annual couples' bunco! It's the only time of the year that our 'other halves' are allowed!

Eve Duguay has kindly offered to host it on Saturday night, February 27th at 8:00pm. Address details to be e-mailed later.

It's £5 for each person to play and each person needs to bring a themed gift worth £10 (unwrapped in a brown paper bag). The theme will be 'Things we do for love'.

Everyone goes home with a gift, and some lucky ones will win some money, all while raising money for the Peace Hospice! It's a easy dice game to play and a great way to meet people. There are only 12 places available. Email me (Margaret) by Wednesday, February 10th if you and your partner would like to come.

What is Bunco?

Fast, fun, furious, Bunco is a dice-throwing game that began in the 18th century, flourished as a form of gambling in the 1800’s and is now gaining popularity as the perfect party activity.  All it takes to play this great game is 3 dice, a group of friends in multiples of 4, and a basic grasp of the rules.

What should I bring?

Bring £5 in £1 pound coins for prizes at the end of the game.  Half of the money collected goes to our designated charity.  Also, bring a gift worth £10 in a plain brown paper bag.  There will be a theme for each evening.

Rules:

v  Teams:  There are 4 players at each table.  Players sit across from each other to form a team.  There are 2 teams per table.

v  Dice:  A player rolls 3 dice simultaneously, with a goal of getting 3 of a particular number, starting with 3’s and working up to 6’s.  When a player fails to roll any of the desired number, the dice are passed to the left.  One point is given for each roll of the particular number.

v  Buncos, babies, snake eyes and travellers:  Rolling 3 of the goal number earns a team a bunco worth 21 points.  Rolling 3 of another number is a baby, worth 5 points.  Rolling 3 one’s is snake eyes, which reduces a teams score to 0. Rolling 3 two’s is a traveller and the player chooses a gift to open.

v  Tables:  The tables are numbered with table #1 being the head table.  Play continues until the head table reaches 21 points, at which time play stops.  At each table the team with the higher score wins the round and advances to the next table.  Before the next round begins, all players must change partners.

v

Prizes:  Prizes will be awarded to the players with the most wins, losses, babies, snake eyes and buncos.
