[Under Construction]

This new interest group is for all those who enjoy looking at and learning from art in all its forms and sharing the experience. Being able to make group visits to places of interest will perhaps also allow us to gain access to resources not always available to individual visitors. Outings will be arranged on different days of the week to allow as many people as possible from the wider membership to join us.

The programme for 2010 includes:

  • Friday 22 January   Foundling Museum and Sir John Soane's Museum

  • Tuesday 23 February  St Lawrence Church, Little Stanmore

  • Friday 26 March  Freud's House and Hampstead Museum

  • Tuesday 27 April  Shirley Sherwood Gallery, Kew Gardens

  • Tuesday 18 May  Banqueting House

  • June tbc  See below

  • Tuesday 28 September  Horniman Museum

  • Tuesday 12 October  Leighton House and Serpentine Gallery

  • Wednesday 17 November  V and A

  • December tbc  Social and planning meeting

We decided that we would generally undertake these outings as a group of individuals rather than as an organised group requiring pre-booking unless there are large numbers of us going or the venue requires notice. So on Friday 22 January please meet Julie at Northwood station at 10 am if you would like to go to the Foundling Museum, or join me en route or at the museum. http://www.foundlingmuseum.org.uk/visitor_information.php    There is an admission charge of £5 (£4 concessions). After lunch we can go on to the Soane's museum (no admission charge).

For February's outing to Stanmore there will be a £4 charge and a sign-up sheet at February's meeting.

We are also hoping to organise a grand outing on Wednesday June 16th to the Palais des Beaux Arts in Lille, a day trip by Eurostar with a guided tour (in English) of this wonderful gallery. The cost for the day will be approximately £90 to cover return travel by Eurostar, insurance, lunch and tour of the gallery. This will of course require considerable advance planning so please therefore let Julie know by January 19th if you would like to come. A deposit of £20 is payable on signing up.

We also thought it would be a good idea if different members of the group would take responsibility for coordinating the outings. Christine is kindly handling the February outing, Danielle has kindly agreed to organise the Lille side of things and Julie will research Eurostar; offers for the other destinations would be very well received!

You should also know that our group donated £14 to our charity as a result of our two outings last year.

Do feel free to contribute ideas or recommendations to group at any time, especially if you hear of local events of interest to us.

Group Leaders:

Julie Shelton
